Bespoke Lampshades: An Update from Alluminare

Yesterday I wrote a post about custom lampshades for Design Tip Tuesday. I had tried to find a resource for bespoke shades at a reasonable price and failed. But I perked up when I got an email from Friday Shamblen of the custom lampshade shop, Alluminare.

Colorway #1
Starting next week (they’re shooting for Wednesday) customers will be able to design their own fabrics, specify a lampshade, and have it made to order. The fabric can be ordered by the yard, so if you want your shade to match the curtains, toss pillows, bedspread, oven mitts, etc., you can order all the extra fabric you want.

Colorway #2

Basically, you choose one of their modern print styles and add your own colors (we designers call it a colorway). There are 200 colors to choose from. “It is very exciting,” says Friday. “We had something similar a couple of years ago and it was quite popular, but I was never happy with the interface. With our more sophisticated imaging platform currently in place, your shade will look exactly as designed.”

Colorway #3

You can order a sample of your design to make sure you like the color. Friday says they’re still working out the pricing. It will certainly be more expensive than their regular stock, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they can do it for less than the $500 I was quoted locally for a single drum shade.

Would you use a resource like this?
