Design Boom’s LED Contest Winner
We’re halfway through exciting Lighting Week! Lighting really is so cool. Case in point – the winner of Design Boom’s LED contest. LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. Basically, they’re a source of light that can create an infinite number of colors. The “bulbs” have an amazingly long life, and they run at very low energy. So, they’re inexpensive to operate.
Design Boom ran a contest challenged entrants to come up with new and creative ways to use LEDs. The winning team, Mark Francis Tynan and William Hailiang Chen designed a system of diodes and motion sensors that turn the LEDs on and off when movement was detected. Click here to go to the site.

Imagine walking through the woods on a misty night with your romantic other. A light breeze blows and as s/he leans in for that first kiss, a shimmer of beautiful colored lights flicker overhead. Do I hear wedding bells, too?
Or, in the words of the artists, “ResoNet explores the boundaries between nature, art and technology; to create emergent physical & ephemeral conditions.” Cool!

Wow! The entertainer in me thinks of all the possibilities for outdoor events. LED certainly helps to create a magical ambiance.
