How Do You Present Your Work?

I thought I’d share my special method of presenting ideas to clients. The typical method (and the one I used to use) is to create a board with samples. You buy foam core, cut samples and glue them onto the board with little labels, etc. It involves a lot of time and lots of hot glue, and cutting and pasting. Ugh, the drudgery! Now I do it differently.

I scan all my samples and floor plans into Photoshop and print it out on tabloid-sized paper over at Kinko’s. This saves so much time, it’s less expensive and my clients love it. I can move things around and have lots more freedom in how I want the presentation to look. Sometimes I include images of my inspiration (as in the top photo). It makes a great “leave behind” too. I tuck it into my client’s work binder and I’ve got my original presentation right at hand. These are some examples of presentations I’ve done.

Because it’s so fast, I can make up a couple of boards with different ideas. Clients love that, too! When the presentation is done I leave a copy with the client and they use this to make their decision. The added benefit is that it makes it more difficult for the rare “client” who’s really only interested in getting the ideas and samples to take them and go shopping on their own.
