Lampshade Trauma
Why oh why are custom lampshades so expensive? I was really excited about an idea I had using a drum shade pendant lamp over a dining table using custom fabric from Clarence House (a style like the one above – not this fabric). I wanted to use the same fabric in toss cushions and some window treatments elsewhere in what is essentially one big room of a shot gun style house – living, dining, kitchen. with the same fabric used elsewhere in the living/dining/kitchen.
Well, the best price I could find was at Cooks here in Detroit for $260! And that didn’t include the cost for 2-1/2 yards of fabric at $62 per. Egads! I couldn’t justify the expense for this particular job. But, I know that Cook’s was outsourcing the job, so where to find the real lamp shade makers? If anyone knows of someone, please pass it along.
