Shopping Home Stores in Ferndale, Michigan
Here’s something for fellow Detroiters. Ferndale, a suburb of Detroit, is now a happening place to be and it boasts a growing community of home stores. It’s so nice to be able to shop for something unique without having to drive all over God’s green acres. And the things they offer are so much more interesting than the mall. You can find these shops near the corner of Nine Mile Rd and Woodward. Here’s a review.
Contempo Home is a hip accessories shop owned by Keith Priemer. It’s not a large shop, but the style is definitely funky and urban. They’ve got a selection of Wingard mobiles and this cool Slope table designed by skateboard artists (see photo). Located on Nine Mile, Contempo Home has an online store, too.
The Twisted Shamrock devotes itself to Irish and Celtic goods. To tell you the truth, this really isn’t my thing. I unfairly equated Irish things with Renaissance festivals. But no more. The Twisted Shamrock had lots of beautiful vases, candle holders and other accessories (including the tea pot shown here) that were really tasteful and had a much more modern appeal than I would have thought. They also have an online shop that you can visit here. The shop is on Nine Mile.
Next is Beautiful Home. I love this store. They sell hand made furniture and accessories all made in Ivory Coast, West Africa. Their concept is to create furniture in a way that shows respect for the rain forest and for the men who craft the furniture. Their furniture (including the pictures table) is absolutely gorgeous and unique. I loved their vases and natural wood bowls. Beautiful Home doesn’t sell online, but lots of their products are on their site, which you can visit here. I wish they had more of their accessories on their site. They’re fantastic. The shop is on Woodward.
Elegance by Design is the newest addition to Ferndale. Their website will be up and running soon, but for now their goods are limited to those who live in Detroit. Their large store is a tasteful array of conservative and transitional pieces. I found a beautiful wooden box there. Elegance by Design is located on Nine Mile.
Finally, we come to R2 Home. Located on Woodward, next to Beautiful Home, R2 Home offers truly unique and absolutely beautiful accessories. I love this store! There wasn’t a single thing I didn’t want to take home (see the photo of their store). I found a beautiful silver bowl with a red faux-coral base for a client. So cool. Unfortunately, R2 Home doesn’t sell online. They should. You can check out their website here.
