That Lamp

I took my son to see Live Free or Die Hard last weekend. It’s a very realistic film. One of the props was the Tolomeo Lamp. Dr. House has one. My husband has one in his office, along with 2 Eames sofa compacts. (Or is that sofas compact?) It’s hard to not see one in a movie these days. Why is that? What makes this lamp so popular? How did it supplant the Tizio in our hearts?

Is the Tolomeo just a Tizio for a new decade? Which do you think works better for residential use? Which would you prefer?
