This Really Takes the Cake

Designers of all kinds find their inspiration everywhere. We look at cars, at fashion, at cakes. Cakes? Why not? The cakes from Lovin Sullivan are certainly inspiring. In fact, they’re pretty damned cool. I have no idea what they taste like, but who cares when they look like these?

I have a kind of strange sense of humor, so I’m attracted to things that are a little out there. Don’t give me Martha. Give me a Love Bird Cake.

I must have cakes on the brain because I wrote about a cake cover yesterday. I’ll go for any excuse to eat frosting. A little anecdote about owner, Kate Sullivan – she made the centerpieces for her wedding out of plaster. They looked like little Anthropologie cakes and had
little bicycles and other small favor-like sculptures on top. She’s married to well-known photographer David Levinthal. She has also has written a book so you can craft your own edible beauties. Hah! Find out more on her site. But all this has me thinking, I don’t think I’d pay $1,000 for anything other than a wedding cake. What do you think? What’s your price limit?
