A Passage to India’s Kumarakom Lake Resort
I’m lucky to have a friend, Minnie, who is an excellent photographer and world traveler. She sent me these photos, along with her report on The Kumarakom Lake Resort - one of the spots on our “must-see” list.
The resort is located in Kerala, on the south-western tip of India. Here is Minnie’s photo-journal of her trip.
The Kumarakom Lake Resort had promised luxury and elegance. Not only did the resort live up to that promise, but by far exceeded our expectations. Located on the banks of Lake Vembanad, the village of Kumarakom is idyllic and tranquil.
The property has been exquisitely landscaped with numerous canals meandering in and around the 22 cottages reconstructed over the 10 acres of picturesque greenery overlooking the stretch of the lake.
The Ettuketu Restaurant (on the left) was open to the air and the food was delicious.
This antique mask and the traditional oil lamps were some of the many beautiful decorative details we found throughout the resort.
The rooms were unbelievable. They backed onto an enormous swimming pool. We could just jump into it from our room.
Here’s the view from our room.
The entrance to our room was via an antique door with this wonderful old-fashioned lock.
See more after the jump.
Our room was spectacular. What can I say? We stayed in one of the 22 lovely heritage villas at Kumarakom Lake Resort.
Here’s a photo of the exterior of the villas. The palm trees bore coconuts, which the staff would split for us so we could drink the fresh milk.
If you don’t want to stay in a villa, why not sleep in a luxurious houseboat? You can take a cruise on these, or have one as your room.
The resort offered lots of activities – basket weaving being one of them. We took a canoe ride along the canals (called backwaters), which was lovely. But best of all…
The resort organized a private performance of Kathakali just for the three of us. The 45-minute performance took place by the pool. To learn more about Kathkali, here’s a link to learn more.
I took this photo of a lovely flower arrangement placed just at the door of the spa. As I said, there was so much attention to detail. The resort is so beautiful.
All good things must come to an end. We plan on returning someday. To learn more about Kumarakom Lake Resort, visit this link.
It’s Jennifer here. I’d like to thank my beautiful and talented friend, Minnie, for giving me a reason to start saving my frequent flier points.
Where in the world would you like to go?
