Chair of the day: Limited Edition Panton

hive modern has a limited edition Panton chair for your delectation. It’s the only place you can get one in these nifty colors.

The chair itself probably doesn’t need much introduction – it’s a classic mid-century model. These colors, particularly, remind me of the Fifties.

Misterarthur is a Fender Stratocaster nut, and says that’s because they look like Fender’s Daphne Blue and Shell Pink. (A piece of trivia I’m sure you’ll appreciate learning, but not the reason I thought of the mid-century connection.)

The designer, Vernon Panton, was one of Denmark’s most influential designers, and this chair is one of, if not the, first injection molded chairs put into production. It’s clearly a versatile chair, and one of the reasons I chose it as Chair of the day is that you can use it both indoors and out, though I will not be held responsible for its durability if you leave it in the rain. I’ve finally broken free of winter’s grip, and am luxuriating in the afternoon sun in oh-so-temperate North Carolina.

It definitely feels like a summer chair, doesn’t it?

Now, if I just had one for my back porch…

Avatars are randomly assigned unless you get your own

man, is there anything Pantone doesn’t have it’s hands in? They sure are going to town with cross marketing!

Err… Rachel, it’s Panton, not Pantone. I make the same mistake all the time, mixing up the two.

But you’re right about Pantone anyway. They should keep their hands to themselves :)

oops! Pantone did come out with a seat, but now after doing a little investigating, discovered it’s a stool…

Which one is it? I’d love to see what it look like.
