Chair of the Day: Moooi Carbon Chair

Marcel Wanders and Bertjan Pot designed the Carbon Chair for Wander’s firm, Moooi, a few years ago. It’s made of epoxy and carbon. A unique combination.

I love what Wanders says about his chair. “It took dedicated craftsmanship in connection with the high tech materials and the material expertise only possible by personal excitement, passion and the love of enlighted amateurs.”

By ‘amateurs’ I assume he’s not referring to the pejorative definition (unprofessional), but instead using the original definition. From Wikipedia: Translated from its French origin to the English “lover of”, the term “amateur” reflects a voluntary motivation to work as a result of personal passion for a particular activity.
