Chair of the Day: Pierre Jeanneret
This V-Chair was designed by Pierre Jeanneret, Le Corbusier’s cousin. In his high school wood shop class.
Hey, just my opinion. Apparently, there are many who disagree with me. A pair of these teak chairs will be up for auction at Christie‚Äôs in New York this month. The reserve is $8,000 to $12,000. I hope that’s for both.
According to this article in today’s Times, Jeanneret designed the chair to go with Le Corbusier’s experimental modernist city, Chandigarh, located about 150 miles north of New Delhi, in India. It seems there was once a multitude of these “V-Chairs”. For some mysterious reason, they were thrown away, or chopped up for fire wood. Until the day that antique dealers realized the potential value of Pierre Jeanneret’s work and started snapping them up.
While I have great respect for history and the need to preserve important works, I just don’t think this falls into the same category as Grosse Pointe’s Library. What’s your opinion?

Avatars are randomly assigned unless you get your own

If I had to choose one, I’d choose to get rid of Pierre’s chair. Now, if his brother had designed it, that’d be a little harder.
