Color Goes Coastal
There’s a nice online slide show from Coastal Living on color palettes for beach houses. They feature eight different color combinations. A palette is a good jumping off point. But don’t forget that you’re allowed to color outside the lines, too.
Case in point? The room I designed for our beach house in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. It’s a combination of what Coastal Living would call a Red, White & Blue palette, and a Tropical palette.
Yes, it’s red, white & blue. But the blue isn’t just navy. It runs to a bright, Caribbean blue. To my eye, this looks lively and fun. What are your favorite beach colors?

Nice to hear from you again. BUT!
Regarding the white slipcovers, if that’s what you like, I urge you to reconsider the choice of stripes.
White slipcovers are fantastic. Chun Bucket is a rental. So, I chose things that can be barfed on. They’re Ektorps, from IKEA. New, white slipcovers cost $49 – less than the cost of dry cleaning. They’re machine washable, but still you have to iron them. It’s easier just to buy new ones.
I also have white, duckcloth slipcovers in my family room. My teenaged son hangs in there. So they really take a beating. I machine wash them in cold water with bleach (and use lots of Spray and Wash). They always come out clean. Yes, they need to be ironed, but in this case, they’re easier.
Don’t shy away from white. It’s the only color you can use Clorox on. Trust me, the next time your son isn’t feeling too well, you’ll thank me.

I’m a blue person so I love your choices for Chum. We are using blues and white for our family room. We love the comfortable, casual look that it creates. Although a white couch and a toddler are out of the question right now. We are looking at couches done in blue ticking stripes. Help hide some of the stains. LOL
