Dining at La Fagurida
On our last night in Italy we went to a wonderful restaurant near our hotel – La Fagurida. I’m drooling just thinking about the asparagus. The beautiful, long green stems were coated with just the right amount (not too much) of melted cheese and butter perfection. Needless to say, the food was wonderful. But the setting, an old farmhouse dressed in Italian Alpine style, made the meal.
To reach La Fagurida take the winding road up the mountain from Tremezzo. Park your car and walk down the cobblestoned path (under the light of a full moon).

The restaurant looks like a farmhouse. And actually it is – sort of. The family has lived there for several generations.

The entrance was welcoming. You know you’re at the right place when you’re the only tourists.

Sorry, no pasta here. La Fagurida specializes in local cuisine.

I sat next to a stone fireplace – the fire crackling happily. The ceiling was beamed and the walls were simply dressed with plates, clocks and cowbells

It was a warm and inviting hideaway.

As for the food, the antipasti was amazing – bowls of local delicacies, including their homemade salami. That was followed by roast rabbit, the most amazing polenta ever, and that asparagus, which we ordered after seeing it served at another table. Did I say I was drooling? I am.

La Fagurida is located on Via Rogaro. Their phone number is 0344-40676. You should call for reservations.
