Holmegaard for Thanksgiving
I was talking to my friend Emily today about various and sundry things. We got to talking about weddings and entertaining, about which she made a very insightful observation. Emily said that no matter who was actually responsible for choosing (or not choosing for that matter) the china pattern and other tableware, a well-set table would reflect the taste of the woman. The husband/partner/whatever gets a pass.
So with Thanksgiving soon upon us, it’s time to take a look at our place settings with a new eye. Of course, it’s also time to completely redecorate the house and learn to use the oven. We’ll save that for later in the week.
Today, I’d like to talk about some beautiful glassware and accessories from Holmegaard. I was admiring their work at DK Vogue, in Sarasota last week.
Holmegaard is a Danish company recently purchased by Rosendhal. Their glassware, such as their Perfection Collection, designed by Tom Nybroe is mouth blown and delicately exquisite. The simple, clean lines go with all your dishes.
Don’t forget the centerpiece! It’s the focal point for your holiday table. I’m loving Holmegaard’s Simplicity Collection of vases and bowls.
These Sense Bowls were my favorites. The photo doesn’t do them justice. These are glass, black on the outside with a white rim and a color on the inside. They come in different sizes and shapes, and are the perfect thing for serving a side dish or nuts.
I had to include this table lamp from Holmesgaard. It’s too cute not to. Your overnight guests will need something by the bed. The One Table Lamp comes in a white version as well.
You can purchase Holmegaard products at Unica Home. BUT! Here’s a money-saving tip. DK Vogue is closing their Sarasota shop. They’ve marked down all the Sarasota shop’s merchandise 30%. It’s just for this week. Give them a call to ask about their available inventory.
Tips for Thanksgiving Decoration
Make sure you have enough matching wine and water glasses for your table. Holmegaard is beautiful, but you don’t have to spend a lot. Choose a simple pattern. Or, create an eclectic look by mixing and matching at least three different patterns and styles. your glassware. Using only two will look like an afterthought.
A centerpiece should be low enough so that your guests can see each other. A series of small vases are the perfect solution for this. Or, use a wide, low bowl at create one arrangement.
Nut dishes are fun! I love little dishes and bowls for nuts and other little snacks. If you have a few nice dishes you can get away with the simplest of appetizers – straight from the can. If it looks good, they will eat it.
