Kitchen Cabinets: A Peek at What’s Out There

It’s the first day of Kitchen Week, so I thought I’d kick things off by taking a look at kitchen cabinets. After all, that’s the starting point – our inspiration – when creating a new kitchen. Here are some well-known brands, some not so well known brands, eco-friendly choices, and Euro-chic styles. Enjoy!

I love these painted maple cabinets with the robin’s egg wall color. These are from Timberlake, which is owned by Virginia-based, American Woodmark.

Here’s a real palace of a kitchen from Grabill. They offer a high-end, custom product. I like the seating at chair height, which they show a lot on their site. It’s so much friendlier and more comfortable than the bar stool thing.

SieMatic offers styles that include both contemporary and traditional. This is from their country collection. I like the fieldstone wall – a great idea I’ll have to remember. Are those counters wood? Hmmm….

Merillat is a popular cabinet company. They have several price levels and offer affordable options. I’ve worked with them and they do offer nice options. But check out those bar stools. Don’t they seem weird, or is it just me?

I love this kitchen. I love the color – something you have to be very brave to embrace. The large “table” serves as both cooking, dining, and washing up space. A fabulous idea. It’s made by DADA, a division of Molteni.

Isn’t this a cute kitchen? I love the treatment with the island. It looks very “English Cottage” to me. I just wish it had a fabric skirt under the sink. These cabinets are from Neil Kelly, which are made from recycled wood and are formaldehyde free. Some cabinets are made from wheatboard. They offer several types and styles.

Another green choice is made by Crystal Cabinets. Bamboo Quest (above) is from their Green-Core line of formaldehyde-free cabinets. Check out the sliding, concrete countertop/table thing. Kinda cool.

Heritage Cabinets offer a cabinet made from Lyptus, a green product using wood from eucalyptus trees. I see they’ve got a mid-century version of fieldstone as a wall feature. Could be a trend.

Planet cabinets, from Poliform, are styled here with a rolling cart. Again, no bar stools! At least not the super tall ones. I like the crisp, clean look here.

Here’s a sleek kitchen from Italian company, Gory. This doesn’t even look like a kitchen. It looks more like a dining room buffet. I like the mix of woods. Gory Cabinets are available through dealers here in the States, including Linear here in Detroit.

My parent’s have Timberlake Cabinetry in their home and they’re absolutely gorgeous! Made in America (not China) too.
