Three Potato Four

My son once took this language test where his teacher showed him pictures and he had to identify what they were. One was a picture of a typewriter. He’d never seen one before – duh! He said it was a keyboard and she marked him wrong. Well, now we can join his teacher (who was obviously living in the dark ages) and take a walk back in time with these fantastic vintage typewriters.

Love these! Truly. They’re from Three Potato Four.

These authentic, Royal typewriters have been overhauled by a typewriter technician and come with one ribbon. You see, as my son’s teacher could have told you, typewriters have these ribbons with ink on them. They’re like a cassette – they wind in one direction. Once you get to the end you have to replace it. Fortunately, Three Potato Four sells ribbons, too. The typewriters sell for $495.

And while you’re visiting the olden days, why not add a phone? They take forever to dial – just use a pencil so you don’t wear out your finger. You’ll be the envy of your neighborhood and the kids will be making excuses to use it. They’re also refurbished to work with today’s systems. The black model is made of bakelite and was designed in 1937 for the North Electric Company under the model name Galion Deskset. They start at $325.

I’ll leave you with this question – and I want it answered! If someone (say a teacher, for example) showed you a picture of a spice rack from the 1950′s what would you call that?

If you didn’t say seasoning, I’m sorry, you’d be wrong.

Love the typewriters. I wish someone would tinker with one so it would actually be a computer keyboard. I also wonder if they sell carbon paper to go along with the ribbons.

I was reading a P.D. Eastman book to my son (I think it was The Alphabet Book) and it had a typewriter in it and my son had the same reaction to it.

“What IS that?”

“A Typewriter!”

“What’s a typewriter???”
