8 Great hostess gifts for a beach house

Know someone with a vacation home near a sandy beach? When you’re invited to stay, don’t forget these few important tips. First, guests are like fish – they begin to smell after a few days. Don’t plan to spend the month asking what’s for dinner. Second,  don’t get so drunk that you break their favorite lamp (I guess the old raggedy one is okay). Most importantly, don’t forget to bring an unforgettable gift. Your host and hostess will never forget your good manners. Best of all, you’ll be sure to be invited back next year.

1. Skull Appliqué Pillow

This appliquéd skull pillow is always a winner in my book. What beach house would be complete with out one of these> Find it at Hable Construction ($135).

2. Lobster Letter Tray

3. Photo Frames

photo-framesAnother great idea – a photo frame. I love these from Mimi Collection (@ $35.00). Don’t forget to send your favorite photo from your time spent together. Your host will know just where to put it.

4. A Classic LL Bean Tote

This beach tote is a classic. And who cares if they already have one – you can always use two. LL Bean has a new Design Your Own option. Don’t forget to add the name of their beach house (i.e.: Chum Bucket) to the bag, or their initials. Prices start at $17.99.

There are still four more to go after the jump….

5. A French Beach Chair

Your host will sense that inner refinement when you show up with two of these Les Toiles de Soleil Atlantique Deck Chairs from Quel Object ($140.00).

6. Rainy Day Collection

games

You don’t have to buy expensive beach chairs to make a good impression. Why not put together a Rainy Day Collection of games, books and a couple of Paint by Number sets? I know a good many grown-ups who love a paint-by-number (me – Elvis on Velvet please). It’s like being back in camp.

7. Beautiful Wind Chimes

sprout-wind-chimesWho doesn’t love wind chimes? These Moon Bell Chimes are from Sprout ($37.50). A beach house is the perfect place for them. Imagine sitting on the deck after a wonderful day on the beach. Just a touch of sun burn. A nice, cool dacquiri to sip. And the soft breeze, the sound of waves blending with the chimes…. sigh.

8. A Beautiful Vase

alvar-vaseThis is my “can’t miss” gift. A vase. Any one you really like will do, but a classic is the best. This Aalto vase, from FinnStyle ($55.00), comes in a variety of colors and sizes. Bring the blowers, too!

These are my favorites. Do you have a secret weapon, can’t miss hostess gift? Will you let us in on it?

I don’t think the lobster letter tray is preppy enough.
