Chair of the Day: Adler’s Claude Modular
What’s up with this strange chair from Jonathan Adler?

I think a lot of his designs are spot on. But his new Claude Modular bench is just wrong, in my humble opinion. The idea is that you start with the base and add things to create your own special whatever. I’m okay with the drawers, which you can add on to create a double dresser. The bench version is out of proportion and looks like it’s going to tip over. It also looks like something from IKEA, and at $1,045, I say skip it.
How about you – pass or fail?

No no no, I like it. Great for a bedroom – you can put your clothes away, or just fling’ em on the bench bit – marvellous!! Or, if it’s in the hall, you can put your phone on the top, address book in the drawer, make a nice cup of tea and curl up and chat to your friends in comfort. Besides, anything orange gets my vote.
Sorry, guys, I don’t agree with you!

Oh Fiona! I get the bedroom suggestion, but address book in the drawer? Phone on top of the dresser? I think the 60s glamour of it all has caused you to forget it’s nearly 2010!
Maybe it would be a cool spot for a record player though! ;)~

I like the record player idea. But I still don’t get that bench part. It’s all out of proportion. You would need to hang something above it, or place something next to it (coat rack?) to even it out.

Why not go retro and have a phone and bench in your hall – then it’s just long enough to curl up on and not too long! Who cares if it’s 2010, do we all have to be dictated to by how things “should” be done. If you’ve got a large hall and you never use that space, then why not – at least you won’t have the TV blaring in the background!! Maybe you’re not brave enough not to go go against the flow Joe? Hmm?
