Chair of the Day: subway seat

I’m off to New York for the International Contemporary Furniture Fair, which starts today. Eeek, I’m late!

I’ll be reporting on what’s new, what’s hot and what’s not next week when I return on Tuesday. So, no posts on Monday. In the meantime, I’ll be riding on the subway – not the most comfortable seating. But colorful. And I’m not just talking about the seating.

Is there anything you’re particularly interested in seeing? Molteni’s new sofa? Autobahn’s new chair? Send me your shopping list and I’ll take the photos.

Avatars are randomly assigned unless you get your own

A very well balanced piece, I like the odd number of seats, evened out by the distressed orange-yellow-orange color sequence. Nicely offset with the repeating ‘Priority Seating’ graphic in Helvetica Neue, medium condensed. The juxtaposition of the taupe background, stainless steel features and cigarette butts is particularly striking.

Very retro. Mid-century modern?

I agree. These were an “instant classic” when they were released in the 1960′s. Everyone wanted to sit in them. They still do!
