DIY: 8 Great Halloween Wreaths to Craft Yourself

Come on everyone – sing with me! “Deck the halls with gore and bodies, fa la la la la…” You know the rest! Sign with gusto, because it’s that time of year like no other (sorry Christmas).¬† Suddenly, graveyards appear in otherwise quiet suburban neighborhoods. Ghosts hang from trees, and doormats scream.

Don’t miss out on the fun. Grab your glue gun and eyeballs and craft your own work of ghoulish art. Here are 8 fabulous wreaths to get your imagination leaping.

1. Bloody Eyeballs

bloody-wreathThis wreath is made of ping pong balls, cheesecloth, and lots of fake blood. I found it at 365 Halloween.

2. Monsters, Inc.

blue-eyeball-wreathThis blue furry creature is also from 365 Halloween. Eyeballs seem to be a popular feature. I prefer a bit more gore, but this will do for the little ones. You can make it with ping pong balls, a Sharpie, and blue fake fur (try JoAnn Fabrics).

3. Skullduggery

skull-wreathThis is more like it. Skulls, black leaves all tied up with a bow.

4.  Feathery Minimalism

This gets the seasonal message across in a sophisticated way. But I’d like to see some spiders – small ones – nestled in there. Aunt Franny thinks, “Oh, what a beautiful wreath. I think I’ll just touch those feathers…” You can make this with a glue gun and feathers from Michael’s.

5. R.I.P.

Cute! Make this with a styro wreath form. Paint and glue wooden ghouls and ghosts. Add some gravestones and call it a day. Oh, don’t forget the ribbon. From Nancy’s Heart.

6. Funereal Ribbons

ribbon-wreathI like this one a lot. It’s not dripping with blood. But you could use this idea and make one for every holiday. I’d trim the ribbon edges on an angle. But that’s just me. Find out exactly how to make it at The Long Thread.

7. Son of Skullduggery

skull-and-bones-wreathAh, just the right amount of scare factor. Most likely the letter carrier will still deliver your mail. Black flowers, bones, bats are the order of the day. Don’t forget the cobwebs. From Ambrosia Voyeur.

8. A Little Bit Country

newspaper-wreathFinally, a nice country crafty look. I like this – especially if it doesn’t rain. Could I just suggest some blood spatter? This was created by My Tangerine Dreams.

Time to vote. Which one is your favorite?

Well, here’s a little insight into my strange mind. My mother never let us put anything tacky on our door – like a cardboard skeleton. Kids are just naturally attracted to tacky things I think. So, of course, I’ve gone the other way. I say the tackier the better – at least while the kids are in the house. So let the blood drip!
