Before & After In The Garden: Year 3 Of Our Willow Tree Allée

Welcome to year three of the allée of flowering willow trees planted by misterarthur in a flash of brilliance. Our former Kitty Litter side yard didn’t always look quite so lovely. We’d have this great idea that didn’t quite work out, so it was left to rot…See? The plan was to have trees in planters. But life got in the way. Finally, misterarthur took the bull by the horns and got a revised plan underway.

Just planted, these looked terrific. We lay down black plastic to keep the weeds down and lay pea gravel on top.The ground was graded to allow for proper drainage.

By last year the trees had really filled out. The bluestone path looks good with the pea gravel mixing in the cracks. This year the trees need a lot of pruning and soon, they’ll be taller and we can carve a bow underneath like a little tunnel.

Looks a little better in just 3 short years, doesn’t it? Can’t wait for next year. Speaking of later, don’t forget to stop by tomorrow. I’ll be featuring a variety of planters for outdoors.

Send all your applause to misterarthur. Leave it in the comment box and I’ll be sure to pass it along to him.

I remember when you first posted after this planting. I thought it was a brilliant then and it really looks fantastic now. Great job! I wish I had a similar place in my yard to duplicate the look!

It’s all thanks to misterarthur. I plant flowers and he makes sure they don’t die! Gardening is like interior design. I like the instant gratification that comes with planting flowers. It’s similar to painting a room in that it doesn’t take a lot of time (depending) and it looks great with just one coat – if you use my favorite Aura paint.

It looks kinda like Alice in Wonderland with the path, the iron gate, and the repeating rows of trees. It turned out beautifully!
