Dorm Room Essentials

Headed off to college? Reaching for the hankies because your child has left the nest? Here’s are a few dorm room essentials that may have been left behind. They offer the perfect excuse to reconnect before classes get underway – even if it’s just through the mail. Care packages are always welcome.

Essential Dorm Extras

  • Madra Magazine Rack: from CB2 ($59.95). I like this funky sort of thing. It’s a magazine rack and a drink stand! What could be more perfect for college?
  • Mini Cable Box: from Blue Lounge ($29.95). Love this! I need about 5 more my office. Clean up all the cable madness with these colorful boxes. The site has lots of truly inspiring before and after shots. They make other cool stuff, too.
  • Sake Bomb: from SakeBombStore ($98). Back to that drink rest on the magazine rack – just the thing! This ceramic sake holder comes with 4 cups and in 4 colors. Cheers!
  • Electrolux Cordless Stick Vacuum: available at Best Buy ($99). This comes is several colors. They’re ionic. Cool. You really can’t get through college life without a vacuum. This is truly awesome. Read a good review here.
  • Fat Boy Point Pouf: from Fat Boy ($178). Okay, I know this is way too expensive for a pouf. But these are lightweight and comfy. They come in lots of colors, too. Poufs, in general, are terrific for a dorm. you never know when 25 unexpected guests might stop by.
  • Desk Accessories: from Jonathan Adler ($reasonable). Be the envy of your roommate with these groovy file folders, pens and note pads. Truly the icing on the cake.

Have any thoughts on dorm life you’d like to share? Anything you remember that you really wish you’d had? I had a mini fridge and a toaster oven. How about you?
