Finding Vintage Glass Door Knobs
I received an email from Christina, a faithful Design Hole reader asking for a vintage door knob resource. She needs several to match the existing style in her home. That’s a tough one! I searched the net and found several good resources for reproduction door knobs, but no vintage.
She is also interested in having custom knobs made. The one resource I have is Tracy Glover. She makes beautiful glass door knobs and may be willing to re-create something.
I’d like to suggest that the door knobs don’t have to match throughout the house. Christina, you could have all matching on one floor and a different style on another. Or, use one style on the main doors and a separate style on the closet and bathroom doors. Just make sure the style you choose matches the existing. That means a Victorian style in a Victorian home, or Arts & Crafts in a bungalow.
Reproduction Door Knob Resources
I’ve listed a few resources for reproduction knobs. I’m also sending out a request for help. Does anyone know a good source for real vintage and/or a custom knob manufacturer?

There are two resources I know of here in California. I would assume they can ship their products if you are not able to visit their locations. The first is Ohmega Salvage (http://www.ohmegasalvage.com/) and the other is Urban Ore (http://urbanore.ypguides.net/). If they don’t have what you are looking for I’m sure they could point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the great finds!

I got a reply from a friend who suggests you look at Anthropologie for vintage knobs. They won’t match, but they’ll be old.
I think this could be one of those things where you take your time and collect as you find them. Again, they don’t have to match. It will give the house more character.
