Giveaway! Beautiful Velvet Curtains And Rods From CurtainWorks

Every Fall my clients start calling asking for a spruce up before their relatives arrive for the holidays wearing their x-ray glasses and white gloves. Yikes! Will their homes stand up to the scrutiny? Of course they will. But it’s a good excuse to add a few accessories and make some quick changes to add some sparkle.

Why not start with some new curtains? Certainly, they can be more expensive than a can of paint (the best quick-fix). But hey, what if they were free? What if I gave away two sets of beautiful lined, full-length velvet curtains courtesy of CurtainWorks? That might be nice. And, what if I threw in the rods to hang them on – like these?

DONE!

Here are the details. The giveaway includes two sets (four panels) of beautiful crimson Messina velvet curtains. They measure 52″w x 95″h and are fully lined. They have a 3″ pocket and tabs in the back. Also included are two adjustable (35″ – 66″) Preston curtain rods in a bronze finish.

I have them here in my office and I can say that they’re a very nice quality – especially considering that they sell for $59.99 per panel. Similar styles sell for more than twice that price. The swatches of their other styles are equally nice. I like the velvets. The Austin blackout style is another favorite ($29.99 for a 95″ panel). Their silks and faux silks are a nice weight, too.

Curtainworks would benefit from adding a lot more styles. I’d also like to see some of their fabrics (like the toile) in a couple of other styles. Some of my favorite fabrics (Soiree – a really nice interlined panel) comes with an attached valance. I’m not so fond of those and would prefer that the valance be an option. Those few issues aside, I have to say that overall I find it stunning that they offer these curtains for such a great price. As I always say with online ordering, be sure to order swatches first – the color on your computer screen won’t match up exactly to real life.

EDITOR’S NOTE: After writing my review I heard from Curtainworks. They pointed out that the valances are not attached. Perhaps they could show the curtains with and without the valance? At any rate, I wanted to clear that up for them.

Regarding their site, Curtainworks offers nice tutorials on how to measure and hang window treatments. They also have a glossary to you can look up bark cloth, etc..

How Do I Win These Wonderful Curtains?

To be entered to win, simply leave a comment with your opinion on curtains. Do you buy them from a particular store? Do you have them custom made or do you make them yourself? I can make roman and balloon shades, but panels are too tricky for me. Do you have a favorite style, tip or suggestion? Let’s use the giveaway as an excuse to talk about our dream drapes.

The giveaway runs for the entire week and ends on Sunday, October 3rd at midnight, EST. The winner will be drawn at random and will be  announced next Monday. It’s open to anyone living in the contiguous United States who has not won a giveaway on Design Hole for the last 6 months.

I love the curtains! My husband hates curtains so we argue a bit about them. I think they soften a room and they much better at keeping out the sunlight than blinds.

I hope I win! I love these.

I’ve never purchased curtains – i’ve always made them myself! I tend to like the simpler styles, and a DIY gal like me can always make those! And the cost – frankly, the cost of curtains blows my mind sometimes! 60$ a panel seems pretty reasonable for velvet curtains though!

i love to buy curtains but i learn to make them when i was in high school. I would love to make curtains for my home but it would take so much time. I love curtains they can add a pop of color to any room in mins.

In my earlier days as a designer, window treatments made me nervous. After a little practice, I am loving custom window treatments. The options are endless of fabrics and styles! A full drape or cutesy roman shades are my staples. I give lots of credit to those that make their own…I wish I could!

Velvet curtains are *so* chic, especially going into colder months. Feels like warm, comfortable, home-y winter!

I still haven’t made any of my own curtains, but I do aspire to, someday.

I’ve made panel curtains and cornices, but am now taking on roman shades for my son’s room. Maybe I’m not any good at it (quite possible!), but my panels have always come out…boring. They look better in the store than when I make them, but I can’t put my finger on why. The cornices are easy with wood, batting, and fabric (pretty cheap, too!).

The thing with panels is that you need a proper sewing table in order to make sure they’re perfectly straight. You have to “pull a thread”, blah, blah, blah. I usually add interlining. It makes a huge difference in the look. Also, ribbon on flat Roman shades add some zip. Roman and balloon shades are really easy to make. You can even make them without a sewing machine.

I tend to buy curtains…usually from PB, Pier One, or Ballard Designs. But I should learn to make them considering they are so expensive. In college, I couldn’t find hot pink curtains that I wanted desperately for my apt nor can I sew. I bought hot pink fabric and hung them on a rod by using my unmatched ear rings..I had no more use for the ear rings but thought they were too pretty to throw away. It turned out fabulous for a no budget college girl! Now that I am a grown-up, I just buy the curtain ring clips.

Kristin, That’s a really fabulous idea – a real repurpose thing. You were obviously way ahead of your time.

For anyone who doesn’t know how to sew, iron-on tape is almost as good.

Jennifer — the sewing-machine-less-ness is what is most appealing to me about Roman shades. I’m excited to try to make them. I’ve watched some YouTube video tutorials and *think* I can pull this off. :)

I’ll confess: the last panels I made were 100% glue gun and zero sewing. I did pull the thread to make sure they were straight, but I totally cheated. No one’s going to look, right?
