Photographic Interior Design Inspiration: Often Better Than “Art”
I have never really considered myself a serious collector of anything. However, I suppose over time I have become an accidental one. More and more I find myself drawn to photography. It’s the section I stop at first during the College for Creative Studies’ Spring Show. (You have to get there early to nab the good stuff.) My sister-in-law just returned from a photographic vacation in India. I hope she’ll let me share her work here on DH. I guess I now own enough purchased photography to make me a collector. Interesting arrangements, treatments and the actual photos themselves really catch my attention.
That includes these organza panels created by Brittany Broas. She screened images of power lines onto white organza. I love the color, the contrast of the industrial with the light organza and the overall beauty.
I’m was going to hang these on the stairs in the hall, which I’ve just finished redoing. But now I think I might hang them in the living room instead of curtains. I’ll let you know what I decide.
Speaking of windows, I saw a couple of ideas in a back issue of Marie Claire Idees and thought I’d share them with you.
This window was created by printing the images on regular paper and hanging them with mini clothes pins. It’s like an informal stained glass window. Wouldn’t it look even cooler if you used religious themes in the photos? Take a camera to church and have some fun.
This idea is easy as punch. Mix up your own photos with images from magazines. Then you can say that was me back in my modeling days. Or Taylor Swift is my close personal friend! Apply the photos directly to the wall with spray mount or wallpaper paste.
Avoid beating your head against the wall when you decide to redecorate a few years from now, either move to a new home or use wallpaper liner first.
Do you have a cool idea for decorating with photos? Send me an image and I’ll post it here. I’d like to start an informal series on photography. Maybe you could help me start it! I’d be forever grateful.

Thanks! Just say what you had in mind, and I’ll deliver.

Would love to be a part of your informal photography project. :)
