Well, misterarthur made the big time last week. His biking journal, Tour de Hood, was discussed in Time Magazine’s Detroit Blog. Yay! You can read what they had to say here.

A few years ago, misterarthur decided to start taking photos of strange and interesting discoveries during his weekend bike rides through the streets of our fair city of Detoit. It’s really rather fascinating and, at times, a bit sad. But it always makes me laugh.

Collections: Spoons at Pigtown Design

While we’re on the subject of gifts, adding to a friend’s collection is a nifty idea. Or why not take your friend’s interest in, say, antique spoons and start one for her?

To start your own collection, try Go Antiques. I used to collect snowball ornaments from around the world. Now I’m into little boxes. I also collect stones from places I visit. They’re purely sentimental, but actually look rather nice.

The Design Vote

Since it’s Friday and we’re all pretending to work while we’re actually updating our Facebook page (not me of course), I thought we’d enjoy a more productive and entertaining way of whiling away the hours until 5:00.

I’m speaking of a trio of sites where people can express their opinion daily by giving design objects the thumbs up or thumbs down. The votes are tallied in real time for all to see.

The Design Vote is a daily ballot on furniture, lighting and other household designs.

My vote: Eeeew

The Kitchen Vote takes a look appliances, cookware and kitchen design.

My vote: Ooh La La!

The House Vote looks at architecture.

My vote: Groooovy

The Design Vote network was started by Michael Cannell, former director of online content for Dwell.com and former editor of the House & Home section of The New York Times. Ohhhh! Impressive.

Favorites for a few days

Well, as you can see, I am back – sort of. My vacation was shortened by a family emergency and I’ve actually been in Baltimore for the last 2 weeks. Things are settling down and I’ll be back in Detroit on Thursday.

I have had a chance to see my hometown of Baltimore. Much has changed since I moved away. At any rate, I thought I’d have some time to get back to writing. But the best laid plans are often pulled asunder, as they say. So while I’m finishing up here why not check out two excellent blogs from Baltimore?

Rachel Perl’s Hue blog is all about color and one of my all-time favorites. Rachel recently moved from Baltimore back to her home town in Berkeley, CA. But, she’s still in the club.

Pigtown Design is another interesting design blog. I think you’ll enjoy it as much as I do.

Inspiration from My Marrakesh

It’s been raining too much here in Grosse Pointe. I needed a bit of sun today, so I tool a virtual trip over to Marrakesh via My Marrakesh – one of the most visually inspiring blogs around. She takes awesome photos and writes beautifully about her life in Morroco.¬†
