Friday Favorite: Alluminare’s new site
Alluminare has come a long way in the past year or so. They started life as a semi-custom pendant lighting company. They now offer fabrics by the yard, pillows, wallpaper, as well as a variety of pendant shades and fixtures. All of these can be customized in a variety of ways. Choose a pattern, then the colors. Best of all, everything can match.
While their products are terrific, their site has been less successful. I won’t get into the problems other than to say it was difficult to find things and to change a design. All that has changed. Alluminare has redone their site to make it easy to find what you want, customize and order. Yay!

I highly recommend buying their color swatch “blanket”. It’s not a blanket, but a fabric sample with all their colors printed on it so you can see what you’re getting in real life – essential if you’re trying to match it to paint or something you already own.
Another custom design resource is Spoonflower where you can design and print your own fabric. Or, buy someone else’s design. Spoonflower is aimed primarily at the crafter’s market; yardage is limited to a 3-yard order. Maybe if enough of us beg, they’ll change this policy.
I’m wondering how many of you have used a custom service for fabric or wallpaper. If you haven’t yet, do you think you would?
