My Suzani: Hot Off the Presses
In our last exciting episode, I designed a Suzani pattern for Alluminare. The pattern is now available. You can find it by following this link.

What can you make with it? Just about anything. Alluminare creates pendant lamps, pillows, fabrics and wallpaper. And it’s all custom. Use their patterns and colors to create your own one-of-a-kind masterpiece.

Design wallpaper and matching or coordinating fabric. Use the fabric to make window treatments or bedding. My Suzani pattern is the first to make use of their new four color printing process.

If you’d like to know more about Suzanis, and my inspiration, read the interview on Alluminare’s blog here.
Chair of the day: Duralee 32-125
This is proof that you can teach an old dog new tricks. If your grand mom wills all her living room furniture to you, don’t hang your head in woe. Give that Bergere chair new life by throwing some contemporary fabric on it. And paint the coffee table a matching color.

This chair (the attractively named Chair# 32-125) is made by Duralee. They sell to the trade, but that doesn’t mean it has to be expensive. This line is very reasonable. Duralee makes fabrics, too. In fact, they made this bold floral. So, if your grandmom stiffed you, now you can go out and buy your own funky/contemporary living room gear.
Get that look! Preppy Stripes, part two
Welcome to part two of my exciting Get That Look! post. To read Part one, click here. Today, I’m finishing things up with the lighting, accessories and art in order to recreate this room.
Lighting, & Accessories

To complete the look in a way that makes this room your own, I suggest checking estate and yard sales, which are just getting underway at this time of year. But we’re clicking today. Tomorrow we’ll be sewing the fabric I found for the sofa pillow. :-)
- Alessi-like Stockholm Bowl ($39.99) from IKEA
- Basisk Floor Lamp ($29.99) also from IKEA. Their lighting is weak, but I got lucky.
- Chocolate Pearl Ribbon Pillow ($130) from Hable Construction. If you can sew, you’ll save. Worth learning!
- Synops Sculpture ($19.99) IKEA – again! Actually, you get 2 sculptures for one low price. Yay!
- Waverly Garden fabric ($15.30) from Online Fabric Store
Art & Accessories
a

Ick, I don’t like the art in the original. I chose my own. The one designer element is the Jonathan Adler pillow. It’s a splurge, but we deserve it.
- Hibiscus Print, ($116.58) matted and framed from The Fulcrum Gallery
- Jonathan Adler Palm Beach Pillow ($110) from his site.
- Tall Sphere Vase ($29.99) at West Elm
- Rubix Table Lamp ($299) from Mitchell+Gold
That’s it. Done. Phew! Now all you have to do is get out your paint brush, your sewing machine, and your wallet! I’ve done all the work.
Two questions. Should I do another room? and… What element do you think is the biggest waste of money?
Friday Favorite: Blue Window fabric
Blue Window is one in a series of fabrics designed by Etsy shop owner, Laura Wilson. She created her design and had it printed over at Spoonflower.

This pattern is bright and cheerful. You can purchase fat squares at Wilson’s Shop for $8.00. Interested in serious yardage? Contact her for details.
Oh Suzani, Part II
Yesterday was a very good day here at Design Hole. My Suzani design was accepted at Alluminare. That means that anyone can now create their own pendant lamp, pillows, fabric (they’ll need curtains!) and now even wallpaper using my design and their color selection. Yippee!

I called all my relatives and practiced saying The Jennifer Mitchell Collection in various accents. They’re a very understanding group of people.
My friend, Lizz, is building a sailboat (show-off). Sippican is probably building a house. The most I’m building is a sandwich. Is anyone else doing something creative?
