Chair of the Day: Van Vliet’s Sushi

I’m moving in a new direction from my higgldy-piggeldy approach to Chair of the Day – at least for this week. I’m going to be focusing on a series of sofas and chairs designed by Edward Van Vliet for Moroso. The collection is called Sushi and I love its dressmaker qualities.

Moroso-in-BrusselsThe collection isn’t new, but it was featured a few weeks ago in Brussells at their Design Fair.

Moroso-SushiThe Sushi collection is a sophisticated wrapping concept inspired by universal layers, found also in nature and architecture. A sofa with a hard shell, medium firmness support pillows and comfortable pillows on the surface. Each layer distinguished by a different sort of upholstery. I love this idea. Whatever you think of the fancy thoughts behind the design, these are just plain beautiful.
