Olya Smith
Yay! Spring arrived yesterday. I’m jumping up and down on my new hip. Well, I’m wishing I could do that – not quite yet. But soon. I’m just happy that the sun is shining and the temperature is well above freezing.
I’m also celebrating my new-found freedom. I can drive! It’s been eight long weeks apr?©s hip surgery. So I’m off to the Design Center to look for some fabric and light fixtures.

In the spirit of the day and the season, I thought I’d share these beautiful photographs by Olya Smith. She’s one of my favorites.
Olya hails from Toronto, but takes her camera where ever she goes – and she travels a lot. She was born is Russia and has lived all over the world. She works as a project manager for a mining company. Photography is her avocation. Here’s what she had to say about her craft. “Photography is a passion and a hobby. I am very happy when people like my work, and even happier when they choose to see it on a regular basis (for example in form of a print on their wall).”
Let’s pretend it’s a warm Spring day and we’ve just eaten a delicious lunch with our best friends. Next stop, the museum to take a look at some seasonally-inspired photos by Olya.

You can see more of Olya’s photography on her Frickr page. Interested in some prints for your home? Contact Olya via her website. Her prints start at $15 for a 5″ x 7″ print. A 16″ x 20″ sells for $60. She can print up to 20″ x 30″. Ask for a price.
Artist, Darlene Shiels Launches New Site

You’ll be happy to know that artist/photographer Darlene Shiels dropped a line to let me know that she is updating her site to showcase her new work, which is exemplary. The best thing I like, speaking as a designer, is that you can order her prints, and photographs in any size you like. Look for her name under Resources and tell her Jennifer at DH sent you.
The Musing of Darlene Shiels
This is an idea I really like. Painter and photographer, Darlene Shiels has launched a new website displaying her work. If you’re interested in a certain work you can email her and have it produced in the size you want. This includes large format prints. As a designer, I like the idea that I can find something I like for a client and not cry because it’s not the right size for the space. Some fine art lover would sneer at that, but I say, “Go &@#! yourself!” Ah, that felt good. Here’s a peek at Ms. Shiels’s work.
