Hable Construction: Kickin’ It Tropical

One Memorial Day, not so long ago, it was so cold here in Michigan that my son went swimming wearing a wet suit. Fortunately, not all of us live in the frozen tundra. And, others actually like the cold, which is settling in here in the northern climates.

Not me. I was born to live at the equator. What with moths eating my sweaters and folks talking about putting an end to global warming, it’s enough to make a grown woman cry.

Or enough to make me think about splurging on some tropical themed pillows from Hable Construction.

Truthfully, these would look strange in my living room. But this morning I’m living in the land of wishful thinking. If I lived in a warmer climate I’d snap these up. They’re made with wool felted appliqu?©s and most come in several sizes.

Hable makes all kinds of things, not just tropical and seaside things. However, these are their most whimsical styles. I like them.

Friday Favorite: Lovebird Pillow

Here’s a design idea for Friday. Spruce up your bedscape with different toss pillows. Keep your color palette in mind, and put together an assortment of toss pillows that aren’t from the same collection. Not only will you have a pillow for every reclined occasion (use your imagination!), but your bed will reflect your personality instead of Wamsutta’s.

You could start with a pillow like this, from Danish design company, Ferm Living. Their Lovebirds pillow (28″ x 14″) is the latest addition to their new textile collection. You can find it at Lekker, where it sells for $110.

Oh, and thanks to Kim for finding this Favorite for me.

Friday Favorite: Marimekko’s Savannin Collection

This new Savannin Collection, from Marimekko, was designed by Nora Fleming with children in mind. I say, “Gimme.” There’s nothing juvenile about this pattern. I love the color combination. And I love giraffes. I’m not one of those people who has a house filled with accessories devoted to their favorite animal, but I still like them. The giraffes, I mean.

The collection, which also includes aprons and purses, can be found at Always Mod – a site devoted to all things Marimekko. The throw pillow is 50cm x 50cm and sells for $32. The towels (with reverse colors on the back) come in two sizes. The bath is $37, and the hand is $16.

Got a favorite of your own? Send it to me. Meanwhile, enjoy your Friday.

A Dog Pillow That’s The Cat’s Meow

Isn’t this the cutest pillow you’ve ever seen? I found it over at Basic French ( guess I’m on a French kick this week). The 12″ square, cotton canvas pillow was designed by Parisian design team Mini Labo. It sells for $54.¬†

Don’t think this is limited to a child’s room. It would equally splendid living amongst a grouping of pillows in a casual family room or bedroom.

Home Accessories from Oromono

Kirsty Anne Powell is the creative genius behind textile designs from Oromono. In the eight years since she graduated (with a first class honors degree in textile design) from Loughborough University in England her career has taken off like a rocket. More about Kirsty in a minute. But first, she’s kind enough to offer Design Hole readers a 20% discount. Details at the end of the post.

Kirsty began her career as a freelance textile designer and stylist in London. After styling within the industry for a year, she moved to Amsterdam. Living in such a creative city surrounded by such inspirational design, Kirsty decided start her own label and set up her own textile design company. Now that takes real guts in a city so devoted to design.

Paper & Ruffles Collections

Kirsty designs three-dimensionally with textiles to create sculptural forms. By manipulating fabrics with various techniques Kirsty created a range of individual collections that add their own unique style. Each textile design concept was then developed into home and fashion accessories.
