Handmade Ceramic Vases, Lanterns & Other Home Accessories From Alyssa Ettinger
Ceramic artist, Alyssa Ettinger discovered her calling at the young age of 14. Like many of us, her avocation took a back seat to a more practical job in magazine publishing. Yet there came a time when Alyssa decided to re-examine her life. She took the brave step of turning her avocation into a vocation. And the world is a more beautiful place for it. Read More…
Hive & Kenneth Cobonpue
Hive is a group of designers who’s work I admire. I’m especially attracted to the work of Kenneth Cobonpue. I first saw his furniture and lighting at last Spring’s ICFF show in New York.
Here is Kenneth’s series called Crokkis. I think I’ve found a starting point for my kitchen island dilemma. Yay!
It comes in three sizes. I’ve contacted Kenneth for prices.
Here are some of my other favorites. At the top is his Little People pendant lamp. Love that. Next up is this wonderful shelf unit, Bandoo, designed by fellow Hive member, Andreas L??schner-Gornau. Finally, Kenneth’s CU-C-ME screen is one of several he’s designed. I adore them because they create height in a room without blocking the view. There are 1,001 uses for that.
One little wish is that Hive would put pricing on their site. Or an easier way to get this information. Please? If anyone would like pricing, I’m working on it. Contact me in a few days and I’ll be able to give you a quote. I’ll add retail prices for my faves on this post.

Potten Fabric Containers
A few years ago, Dutch designer, Renske Papavoine presented her Potten Project to Nani Marquina and the Catalan designer loved it and decided to add her creation to Marquina’s textile line.
These fabric containers are beautiful Рa visual surprise. At first glance, they look like ceramic pots. But are, in fact, a conglomerate of pliable, multicolored fabrics. A soft, ivory latex-covered leather on the outside, and a rainbow of color on the top. Potten containers aren’t waterproof, but with a liner, they’ll serve as a planter, a vase, or a container for just about everything. I loved these.
But there’s more to the story. Read More…
Alchemy Vase
It’s finally beautiful, wam and sunny here in the fine city of Detroit. Flowers spring to mind (pun definitely intended). It’s time to plant some pansies and buy some tulips. All I need is a beautiful vase.
The Alchemy Vase, from Home Port is appealing. I like simplicity when it comes to floral arrangements. These come in a variety of shapes and sizes – all replicating the glassware we used in chemistry class. They range in price from $7.50 to $150.00.
